2015 NHL Tomorrow
I am a pretty big Detroit Red Wings fan and just about always have been. Hockey is the only sport i can literally get overly excited in by just watching especially if its the Red Wings playing. This season, the Wings are about due to make it into the third round of the playoffs this year, I'll be satisfied if they beat whomever they're matched up against in the first round. I'm not going to lie here, with the Red Wings current roster, they probably will barely make play-off again with the young blood on the team continually improving but the injuries we always encounter on area key players always kills us, which I bet will happen again unfortunately.

Week of Analysis
This week in class we spent a good bit of time covering theme analysis in multiple forms, whether it be in the forms of : movies, music or literature. This week of class I feel was a decent one in regards to appeasement to material. It was interesting with the theme analysis in the music we listened to, because I never really search for a theme in a song before and was interesting. My only question I had for the week in class was how come we had to talk about Blurred Lines for close to an hour? I was interesting for maybe ten minutes getting the look on both sides type deal but was extended a tad to long. :/

Offshore Wind Power
Early this month the Deepwater Wind project was fully permitted. The Deepwater Wind project will be the United States first offshore wind farm, and construction is planned to begin in this upcoming summer in 2015. There are only twenty-five in existence to-date, twenty-two of which are in Europe. The three non-European farms are located in Chinese waters. Denmark's Vindeby, was the first offshore windfarm, built in 1991. The United Kingdom leads the world in offshore wind power in the most power generated (38.4 million MW), number of turbines (just under 2,000),and number of farms (19). The US's leading energy consumer Texas, consumes about 3.6 Billion MW annually and New York consumes about 1 Billion MW annually. One year of energy generated by the UK's offshore wind farms alone could power New York City for approximately 8 months of the year.

Carrie Week
This week in class we watched the 1976 film Carrie, directed by Brian De Palma. It was a classic horror film depicting common ideas that correlate with the the decade. I feel it was kind of bad movie. It was pieced together well and all of that jazz but it just failed capture my attention. Throughout Wednesday, we analyzed specific aspects and themes of the film, sex in particular. Another evident theme displayed in the movie the perceptions others have of us affects our choices. For instance, Carrie's continuous harassment leaves her in a recluse type of personality among her peers.

Leo and The UN Climate Summit
Just this morning the UN held a summit on the rising issue of our climate, specifically global warming. During the summit a beloved actor, at least to the American public, Leonardo DiCaprio, gave a short yet powerful and meaningful speech. Leo was honored with the title of UN Messenger of Peace by UN Secretary-General Ban this last week and marched together in New York on Sunday. Leo has lead the way for environmental action in recent years, launching his foundation addressing environmental and humanitarian issues, donating millions of dollars to research and organizations along-with living rather 'green'. Leo delivered this warning to the assembly "You can make history...or be vilified by it." If that fails to hit something in you, there is something wrong with you.Leo's speech:

ENG 1050: Week 3
Howdy partners,
Yet another hello from Derek, welcoming the close of the third week of the fall semester. During this week's class we only met yesterday, Wednesday, due to unforeseen events seeing to the cancellation of Monday's class. So, on that one day we managed to cover a number of stories, including an essay from one Helene Woyczesczyk (Voy-ch-zess-shyk) about how we should all write letters instead of text and etc... She was rather emotional and adamant in her persuasive storytelling, advocating letter writing. It wasn't a bad read, especially for an 8th grader, so she gets kudos for that in consideration but it was a bit too one-sided and just simply could have been better. My advice for my own improvement is that I should probably change up this blog for next week both cosmetically and my topics.

The November Man
This week's movie critique will be on "The November Man." Former 007, Pierce Brosnan, take on yet another role as an operative for an intelligence agency. However, this time it was for good old Uncle Sam not for her majesty. Anyway, Brosnan does fairly well in this film, but then again it is the only role for which he is suited so its no surprise. The screenplay done by Michael Finch was impressive by my standards and then the story line was not too shabby. So overall this was a good film and earns my recommendation for any movie goer looking for a decent action-packed score.
